So a few mornings ago I started a new thing that I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do from now on.
I started dancing. Now don't get me wrong, I frequently bust a move. Anywhere. Often in public. Mostly on my own, but I also enjoy doing Don't You Feel It Too. Check it out, it's super fun and exhilarating, and freeing.
But this is something different. Of course I'm always listening to music, and mornings are no exception. But now I more consciously have a dance party. I get my groove on. Serious groove. Not just a head-nod. We're talking all-out dancing, booty shaking, hip-action, arm-flailing dancing. The good stuff.
And let me tell you, I don't think there is any one other thing that brings me such joy instantly. It has changed my mornings. It wakes me up and gets the juices flowing. I'm already looking forward to tomorrow morning. Which says a lot, I'm not usually a joy to be around in the morning (especially not early).
So if you need a little somethin' somethin' to get you going in the morning, dance. Groove. Swing. Shake it. Shake it like a salt shaker if you like.
But man, I am loving this.
Tonight my room mate Kate and I did Don't You Feel It Too on the walk back from a coffee shop by our house. Now, it's winter outside. And with the whole grad-school thing, I have really heavy textbooks to read (including my DSM that just came in the mail today, woo!), so my backpack was more than a little heavy. So walking with a heavy backpack + dancing + winter = GREAT workout. And the joy it brings.. unbelievable. Not to mention the smiles on peoples' faces walking/driving by. Such good stuff.
So dance. Do it. Let it all out. Shake what your momma gave you. You'll be surprised how good it'll make you feel.
