For the record, I think the bass guitar is the bees knees. A "sexy" bassline (in my opinion of what I think is sexy musically), well, I like them. I will leave it at that.
ANYWAY..
This particular Death Cab For Cutie song has a bassline that I like quite a bit.

Uhh were you aware that Ben Gibbard has a solo album (with Andrew Kenny)?? Yup, I didn't know until a couple days ago. And it is wonderful.
I was listening to my Rocky Votolato playlist on Pandora, and this song came on..
I stopped.. and was like... Whaaaaa Ben Gibbard??? Not a Death Cab for Cutie song??
I'm finally sitting down to do my first listen through the album. I'm almost done. It is the perfect fall Sunday morning album. Go make your coffee, tea, chai, cocktail, whatever gets you through the morning, and spin this album for the soundtrack.
Current song: Ben Gibbard and Andrew Kenny - Farmer Chords
In other news, pumpkin spice Eggo waffles are TASTY. The sample lady at the store conned me into getting them. Perfect snack for this fall Sunday morning chai Ben Gibbard listening party.

So I was listening to my I Simply Remember My Favorite Things playlist, and a song by The Format came on.. so I started listening to the rest of their stuff that I have (a haven't listened to much) and I am really digging it.
It was this song that came on. Otherwise I can't really pick a favorite because I haven't heard them often enough.
But earlier today I was jamming to this Jimmy Eat World song. And I'm sorry, I just have to say this (and I don't think it counts as negative, per se) but I feel like Jimmy Eat World has kind of gotten the short end of the stick in that The Middle is played (and overplayed and overplayed) to the point that I kind of feel.. a tinge of judgment from others when I say "Oh yeah, I like Jimmy Eat World." Is it just me? Anyway, I think that the album Chase This Light is really really good. My favorite of theirs. Beats out the album Futures, which I also really liked. I'm really bad at keeping up on new music (main stream labels anyway).. must work on this. Come to think of it, I have Invented and I really need to start listening to it.. geeeez. Well, I've got my night cut out for me!
Current song: Jimmy Eat World - Heart Is Hard To Find
Also, I thought this was funny.. the Genre column on my Itunes describes Jimmy Eat World a handful of ways... Alternative, Pop, Rock, Emo..

Two observations this moment:
1. Dance parties make everything all better. Shake yo groove thang.
2. My band t-shirt collection has grown exponentially in the last year. I like this. A lot.
Current song: Iron and Wine - Tree By the River

notebook
Starting the day off with The Beatles.
Didn't realize how many opportunities there is to say "ooooo" and do jazz hands during Beatles songs... but I'm only two songs in and I think I did it at least 5 times. That's a good start to the morning if there ever was one.
Listening to 1, in particular. Such a good culmination of a bunch of different albums.
Seriously, if I was stranded on a deserted island and could bring only one band's music with me, it'd be The Beatles. And maybe a newly framed Abbey Road record (on my list of things to do).
Current song: The Beatles - I Want to Hold Your Hand
(I love black and white videos!)

angel
Woke up with this Matt Pond PA song stuck in my head. Rarely do I go to a show and fall in love instantly with a band I've never heard of, but this was one of those times. I wrote about it a little, below with regards to the Rocky Votolato show.
Seems my sometimes "all or nothing" attitude expands to music. I have this joke that I decide within the first 10 seconds of the first song, whether or not I like a band. It's true and not.. I either get that feeling of connection to it, or I don't. Sometimes it develops, most of the time it doesn't. But when I get that feeling, I really like the music. And Matt Pond PA was one of those times.

I feel like I'm stuck in a musical rut. But a good one..
For the past few days this is all I've been listening to:
1. Taylor Swift
2. White Light Riot (new album, woo!)
3. Death Cab For Cutie
4. Motion City Soundtrack
And really, that spans a few genres..
1. You've got your pop-country, which no, is not the same thing as country. :) Turns out there really isn't a pop-country genre, so I'm making one up. Take that, society!
2. [local!] And your self-proclaimed "Brit-pop" indie rock.
3. And how would I classify dcfc.. see, I hate genre-lizing music.. I feel like I'm putting it into a box.. Wikipedia says dcfc is alternative.. not sure if I agree with it, but I guess I'll go with it. For now.
4. [local!] And your pop-punk. Which, until about 2 months ago I never would have pegged MCS as being punk, which I guess it is.. I guess I can say "I like punk music." Not sure how that makes me feel. I guess it makes me feel like I'm 15 years old again and listening to MxPx, Saves the Day, and New Found Glory..
If I could bike and listen to music without getting hit and killed by a car, I would.. for now I'll go tie the headphones to my tanktop and turn it up as loud as it goes. Get out and enjoy this sunshine, people!
Current soung: Death Cab For Cutie - Stay Young, Go Dancing
(seriously this song is on repeat. so good!)
